Grambling State Signs 21 Football Standouts On First Day Of National Signing Period

Grambling State University head coach Rod Broadway announced today that a total of 21 student-athletes have signed national l
etters of intent to play football for the Tigers next season.

            With a focus of recruiting in the state of Louisiana during the offseason, the coaching staff went out and signed 10 recruits from the state.  Grambling State continued its presence in the state of Alabama and nabbed six standouts in addition to signing three players Georgia and one each from Texas and Virginia .  Several players in the class are also highly decorated as eight of the 21 signees earned all-state honors.

            Broadway said additional players will be signed through the duration of the signing period.

WR/DB Rondarius Bradley, 5-10, 175, Wossman: Made 50 tackles and three picks last season. A year after he gained 433 yards with three touchdowns as a junior, Bradley led all Wildcats’ receivers as a senior. Named first-team All-Northeast by The News-Star and Glenwood SportsCare.

S Desmond Ellis, 6-2, 195, Richwood: All-District 2-3A first teamer. Made Dandy Don’s list of top Louisiana prospects under “Best of the Rest.” Recognized on Jim Stefani’s underclassmen football recruiting blog. Also a star basketball player.

DB Montrell Gardner, 6-1, 180, Bastrop: Made 66 total and 44 solo tackles last year. A season highlight was an interception returned 39 yards for a touchdown in the 60-6 semifinal win over Minden. Also blocked two punts and recovered a fumble.

ATH Derek James, 5-8, 155, Biloxi (Miss.): Played wide receiver and defensive back. Named to The (Biloxi, Miss.) Sun Herald’s list of Top 25 statewide recruits. Rivals.com clocked him at 4.6 in the 40-yard dash. Recognized on Jim Stefani’s underclassmen football recruiting blog.

LB Jabari Powell, 6-0, 190, Wossman: Led the Wildcats with 110 stops and four defensive touchdowns. Named first-team All-Northeast by The News-Star and Glenwood SportsCare. Also an all-District 2-3A first-teamer. Part of Wossman’s first-place 800-relay team at the state Class 4A track meet.

LB Mychael Sampson, 6-2, 230, Carroll: An all-district second-teamer who made 80 tackles last year. Good size, yet still quick; said he runs a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash.
